A recent report suggests that in REM sleep the mind is sorting out memories to store and memories to discard. This makes sense of a few things for me. This memory gets sorted as similar to that memory of long ago, some feminine persons get shelved near Mom. And if one purpose is to clear out detritus, that explains why we don’t remember our dreams—that’s the job!
