We have in our day an epidemic. It is fear. We fear one another: meeting, talking with, an other: someone we do not know and who is somehow other than us. It leads us to shy away from stranger conversations. It leads us to make others into less than human in politics. It leads young people hopped up on testosterone and adrenaline to shoot one another.

This morning I described my place in life as being done with my Sisyphus activities—no longer pushing a new snowball uphill each morning. Ha! Sometimes it gets large quickly and becomes near impossible to get it to the top. Sometimes it melts before it starts, with same result: it doesn’t make it to the top!

It is not about growing. I have written much about growing. Thought much about growing. But for one, growing has aspects of time, which may not be a real thing: time seems to be a human construct. For another, growing brings up notions of heaven and afterlives. Mainly it suggests that we are not living for now but learning for later. Education: being drawn out. Into what is real. Yet this too is real. We have a life to live, while we are educating, learning, planting, harvesting, paddling a canoe, hugging. Growing can be as well a step along the path with no end. What has no end—the path or the growing or the stepping?

We are removing the emoting from observation. It is Clean Thinking: not adding our own wishes or predilections to what we are thinking through. What is the thing stripped? Then again, there is no thing apart from its context. So we need all that: but it is good to know that there is the thing and the all that: to see clearly, cleanly.
