You are people who see life
in all its current and long-term assets,
all its trial balances,
and can suggest adjustments
Might you just be poets, too?
You dance with the numbers
The numbers sing to you
This is poetry
You see things they do not
perhaps cannot see
until you point it out
constellation in the night sky
this is poetry
How do you bring
an open heart
to your work?
this is poetry
You remember
who we are
as humans
this is poetry
:- Doug.
Maybe we’re not changing the world. Maybe we’re not engendering a better humanity. Maybe we are serving the grandchildren of humanity.
:- Doug.
With all of space all about, why is the space station built so compactly?
:- Doug.
Poets are people who take a longer view.
You are people who see life in all its current and long-term assets, all its trial balances, and can suggest adjusting entries. Might you just be poets, too?
:- Doug.
How will we go
if we know, finally know
we’ll never arrive?
:- Doug.
In this work
we will not know
when we have arrived
for when
are we human?
:- Doug.
Make believe
for something like it
will be
:- Doug.
Don’t get hung up on results
Care mightily about reaching across
:- Doug.

Here’s the fact: we are falling apart, we are evaporating. How do we use this fact to teach? Not to teach, to lead? Not to lead, to inspire? Not to inspire, to befriend? Not to befriend, to walk alongside? Not to walk alongside, to be silent together in the face of mystery?

It’s not our hope
just where we work

It may be necessary to explore possible technology futures so that we find ourselves disheartened and lost so that in turn we see more clearly where we find ourselves and where we might better go.
