We speak to our time from our time for the generations. We cannot speak for them otherwise. We must.

for you to be idealistic

Footprints in the Windsm # 1875
Why 300 years? Because it lifts our sights beyond those with whom we are able to talk. Because those in 300 years are close enough we can imagine them, but far enough away we are forced to think longer, in terms of lineages and species. Because we need to raise our sights beyond the quick fix. Because we are forced to ask what is best for humanity and maybe even life itself. Because it requires us to ask, How does what I do and who I am today have effects beyond me? Can we improve humanity, just a little?
Please pass it on.

The long now depends upon the short turning. The fast turn at the edge of a disk depends upon the increasing stillness toward the center.

A 300-year future in a 600-year now gives an at-homeness in all the change swirling about. More, it instills a steadiness in the wind. It opens our eyes beyond next week and larger than our children to at least our species and culture if not life itself. It allows us to relax about some short term changes.
:- Doug.

we converse with our highest selves
our furthest ancestors and posterity
