What is cookie baking about? Making up a story? Love is too facile an answer. There is something in the ordinary.

If we are a species distinguishable from adult, we must have powers distinguishable, not built of strength nor speed, but probably of profundity and meaning and heart for complexity and contradiction.

Map a major part
A power beyond adult
—story?
—far-sight?
—mist-ifying?

It is up to you
To prove them in
Experience or disprove
:- Doug.
We in age
have power beyond
adult which we
must invent
and use for good
:- Doug.
I’m old
I’m a special kind of old
:- Doug.
Here’s the thing—
This is and will be enough
and
The world needs our kick in the rump
and
We must find a way to live
out fully these both at once
:- Doug.

:- Doug.
We’re a new generation, but that’s not the significant thing. We have health and energy and freedom—and that’s not either. What’s deepest lies in our new opportunities and responsibilities. Can we mend the earth, heal our anger, our orientation to Dollars and numbers?
:- Doug.

and say an unforeseen future
:- Doug.
Stand it on its head
see what you can learn
how your way might turn
:- Doug.
Finally, consciously, we may move toward being whole people.
:- Doug.

that you may hear
now from the very darkness
