I am Douglas Germann. I am father, husband, lover. I am gatherer, community disorganizer. I am more than this. Son, brother, of humanity, of mystery. Larger.

What does eldering feel like? Moving beyond these momentary crises. Soothing flows around us, maybe through us. We’ve made it this far, we will be all right. There is a something larger than this moment. Maybe it is a mystery. We will be all right.

Notice that peacemakers get crucified, assassinated, toppled: proof that to some peace is threatening.

Eldering is
threshold some
accept to cross
transcending
middling projects
confronting larger
sweeping

Rites of passage serve as points of recognition of crossing. Who recognizes?

What of yourself do you need to let go? What new do you suppose (you cannot know) would serve your next growth? What are the limits of whom you have been? What are the strengths you now need?

Nor even to remember
Rather to show us a longer view

Let’s be about claiming and re-writing the elder archetype for our times and these people. What would fit your background and sense of calling? Your schedule, your energy, your resources? Whom might you elder? How will you “speak?”

Take inventory—all that and who are important to you—people, living things, philosophy, spiritual, story, future, past, present, health, views. An early step in your eldering.
