So much of my attitude has been a reaction to imagined opposition. But if we turn and face the same direction…, if we hum variations of the same symphony….

It seems that harmony, perhaps itself a result of conversation, is open (it allows for all possibility to express itself), which means there is freedom (from any restrictions, internal or external; to express itself), which is granted to all sides (this is also called respect).

Approaching harmony with the system you are nudging, and hopefully with the system entire, is the way to influence. The more harmony of the nudgers, the more the system entire moves the desired direction.

If you want people to own South Bend, you have to give up a share of your ownership—maybe even the majority share.

A flight of conversation/imagination: I saw a new design for airline seats: the middle seat turned to face the other two. Some people will be frightened to face strangers or anyone. Some will want to sleep, to read, to get work done. A mother will want to face her children. Some will want to be gregarious. But perhaps a few would be willing to open space and work on something of mutual interest. Could sections be set aside for these different preferences? What progress could we make if good heads and good hearts were to make solid use of this otherwise lost time?

I think otherwise the passengers will reject it entirely, and some might come to blows.

To understand one another, to feel good
Mainly we converse to locate our lost essential

Conversing is a marker of life.

If you nudge your grandchild to go to college, you will be surprised at her choice of college, major, and spouse. If you nudge the weather, don’t be surprised to have it storm at you. The nudge is yours; the outcome its own. So make your every nudge fun.

If we do not seek the picture whole, how will we ever reach for whole?

It is work and frustrating to say what I see. It eludes my pen. I wonder does it also elude the painter’s brush strokes?

What do we understand of the universe? Fragmented? Whole? Omnipresent? Let’s start here as we work out how we will deal with our world. What is its shape, what is our role, if we see it afresh where might our fun want to take it?
