Surely we don’t want
We use words without thinking as deeply as is available to us. Take “Have a discussion” as an example. We could say “Let’s talk.” But “Have a discussion” sounds so much more substantial: it is formal, aloof, even academic. If we want to come together these are not what we want. Deeper, the roots of discuss suggest violence: percussion, concussion, surely we don’t want striking either.
