These are the butterflies
The transformed ones
Hear for their brief moment

So I might speak
I do this law work
All this writing and calculating
And touching the world
So I might speak
With people gathered
And write
My poetry
To lead
My people out
To invite
The True, Beautiful and Good

We try to avoid facing the new
Goals and plans are ways

Mystery
Can the only thing
Remaining be to
Jump into the sacred fire?

Betray the pulsing life
A plan and a goal
From the adventure
Want to betray the pulsing life
To delay our dive
Into our blood

Today a ladder

Is the metaphor I divine
What do I know?
Does it lead
Into the maw
Or out
Or across the teeth?

Sometimes that’s just what we must do
No one wants to tell
Our heart’s desires and plans
To the world before they’re fully formed
And sometimes that’s

We hold back too long, yes?
For here is our courage
And here our pulsing blood
