Footprints in the Windsm # 1270–immortality, family style

Footprints in the Windsm # 1270

This is immortality, family style: To start a relation that can never end. When we meet grandchild or grandparent and see into and with their being, when we see the future and the past as one thread—our thread, when we meet another and demonstrate how they may meet in their turn, we have started such a relation. When we share this breath, as insubstantial as it is, we have twisted another strand into the immortal thread of family. This thread neither belongs to us nor can it exist without us.

The action we call relating

Perhaps, I wondered this morning, G*d is the action we call relating. Verb. Adjective. Less noun. So we are in the betweens, we are the betweens creating each of us. Nothing exists in this universe all by itself, but only in the light of many.

to love,

The drop falling

The drop falling
is made one
with the ocean
the contemplative
one with divinity

What I love about the Quakers

What I love about the Quakers is that they are doers of and participate in God. You go to worship and you do not merely sit in the audience: you and all with you are on the stage, in the action, expected and expecting to speak your lines and do your part. Each of us is by turns theologian, preacher, care-giver, care-receiver, counselor, friend.

Now some breezes move

Now some breezes move the tree leaves they dance with their unseen partners and a butterfly keeps her own time for them the water the water waves in friendly response while the grasses bask in the sun and the shadows mark old Sol’s movements.

moving in redshifts

Imagine the orbs
as spirits of those who went before
& those who come after
their twinkling when they come & go
being a speaking to us
if we would attend
or maybe signifying nothing but their travel
through space & time
their endless & growing number
moving in redshifts
might tell us
true is some of our imagination

“Solutions”

“Solutions”
businesses offer us
but I don’t want
to be liquefied
dispersed homogeneously
in a gas, liquid, or solid
my life is not a problem
or a knot to be untied
I see your word
“solutions”
I want to gag
My life is paradox
threads to be woven in
love
the result a
living, ever-growing
tapestry
our own

Your personal magician

Your personal magician
a genie
a bottle
wishes unlimited
(sometimes stubborn
—granting no wishes)
feed your belly
feed your greed
no accountability
demands one way only
in our time
this is
our god

Is there a way to enjoy them all?

Life is to enjoy, to live, or it would not be a gift. Life is a gift. Hard times, good times: perhaps there is a way to enjoy them all.

Footprints in the Windsm # 1268–If that is my task

Footprints in the Windsm # 1268

To be as large or as small in this world as I am
—If that is my task
To be of an illimitably large reality, a small but essential part, inseparable, of the weave of flavors
—If that is my task
To share this realization with as few and as many as I am given
—If that is my task
What shape does it take with my family?
What form with my clients & friends?
In what wholeness does it hold my practice?

How are we using

Are we using the Bible
as a tool of love & embrace or
as one of hate & driving away?

Are we pleased
—do we rush out—
to help
an other
or do we denigrate
—spit upon—
those less fortune-ate
than we?

Is the day round?

Is the day round
or the year?
Or is it simply on which we stand:
this sphere?
Or is there more to the
roundness
we experience?
