Family council is a process for making families whole.
:- Doug.
In family council we test what it means to be family—this family. We test—we find—we make.
:- Doug.
Let us seek conversations of wholeness: whole-making.

We move something larger than us not by shouldering through but by dancing with.

When you are considering Long-Term Care for Mom or Dad, is family important? Is it important to you that your family works together, stays together? Then getting together on purpose in a way that gets all possibilities and all issues on the table is the way most likely to keep you together.
:- Doug.
Let’s give us leisure
an empty space
when we are not occupied
when we can make or find
a pregnant emptiness
:- Doug.
What is our nature in this family? What is our responsibility? What is our possibility?
:- Doug.
Not in the consumer world
We created and still imagine:
We live in a human world
:- Doug.
These are five limits to which we take our conversations; we sometimes cannot see past these fences we put up: They are I-It, I-Thou, Us, Poetry, and Whole-making. We can go beyond to the next limit, yet ought we not to seek the ever larger?
:- Doug.
We are more than just money spenders, cogs in the great industrial wheel, chewing up what that machine spits out in order that it might continue. Our world is not an It; we ought to fill our world full of organic imaginative beings with whom we can love.
:- Doug.
There is a more than this
Of which we must speak openly
Were our tribe to live
:- Doug.

Curiosity, connection & choosing: Curiosity is accepting the holy invitation. Connection is loving and so paradoxically giving and exercising freedom. And choosing is calling whole, home and hearth—choosing the wayfarer and the wayfarer choosing home. Curiosity, connection & choosing: one good way to live.

My thoughts are enfolded in your thoughts
Ours in ours together
Speaking, we unfold
:- Doug.
Sometimes, the end of life conversation is difficult because we do not know what options are open to us, when we might say enough, about what subjects we might converse.

Before we bend the world
Our way
Let’s see what shape it’s in
Please pass it on.

We have a human desire to meet—self, others, divinity. The mystery is we can meet all three in each.
:- Doug.
Not always will we be heard
Just so
We from heart must keep speaking and hearing
:- Doug.
As much as we conceive life
Life conceives us
Calls our actions together
To stretch itself
Conversation and we conceive
Each other
Conversation calls us together
Life is conversation
:- Doug.
