What are the centers, the patterns of my life as a person to person practitioner?
What are the centers, the patterns of your life as a family, which this Will can make more wonderful?
What do you do as a family when two or more of you are together?
:- Doug.
I only know I must throw my whole heart in. I feel like I have been holding back. Why? Money again? Fear of what the “neighbors” will think? Maybe little pieces of these and more. The How question resolves itself around fears. If we had not the fears then we would try one thing or another until we found something that worked. Asking How is simply a way of asking that we be given what we want without risk. Throw my whole heart in.
What to work on—projects or working together—is the same working of fear! I have only so much time and I do not wish to throw it away. That is the wrong way to see. Instead, throw it away! Try something! Find the most important thing and make it wonderful! Do what falls to your hand!
Zheesh! I have such a no mistakes allowed habit! Make more mistakes! Talk to strangers.
Throw my whole heart in!

Making a Will can be enjoyable
Reading a Will can leave us feeling wonderful
It does not have to be a mere off-loading of stuff
But a gift of love, wisdom, life!

In the 20th century we have come to believe modularity is the answer to everything—both in building hotels with plug in room-boxes, and in our “management” of people and human relations: What works in one setting can be plugged in here to solve all our problems. In the 21st century and beyond we need to recognize uniqueness and cater to its specialness.

This is why goals don’t make sense: you cannot presume to know enough at the start of any step to be able to design 10,000 more steps and then to execute that plan without deviation. Design and construction need to go back and forth filling in for each other at each interval.
And this then is a hint of emergence: it comes from the heat of this very back and forth. It arises from process, not out of one sterile mind trying to get pregnant all by itself.
True emergence can only happen when we take it out of the thinking chambers and subject us and our ideas to real life—all the people on the real ground. This is taking to scale—this is when everybody gets it—when everybody is invited and all who come are heard. Invitation must include the promise to hear. When design hears construction and construction design and both the whole on which we are working—here is emergence—of life!

Information and knowledge are commodities, easily attainable by ones with a will to do so; just other resources to be acquired along the way, like bricks, mortar, and electricity. The dear substance is that very will—the energy, commitment, and assumption of responsibility to make the project happen. We will do what we will; nothing more. Making things happen consists in announcing that truth and uncovering that will.

How would we sketch a conversation, its centers, how it moves, transforms, disappears, acquires life and power?
:- Doug.
We are all one whole. I am enlivened by all about me, I enliven the whole as I enliven all about me. Let’s do this consciously, what say?
:- Doug.
The bulb and the image it casts and the screen upon which it is cast each means nothing without the others: the meaning is the whole system and process. The whole generates the centers, the centers intensify the whole and the whole intensifies the centers: each are necessary to the other.
:- Doug.
Centers are fields within which we work. If we work with another, the field is enlarged, the center strengthened. The center may be an idea or a movement or a feeling—this is what draws us together, not the person. Centers are these shimmering ephemera, very real, palpable, which draw us to working together.
:- Doug.
People are not centers. Things are not centers. Centers are centers. Centers are things, done physically. People are potential centers within the centers, but none alone is the center of the center.
:- Doug.
In growing a conversation, there is no one architect. Each center itself is an architect, or rather each person making up the center is thinking like an architect, How can we strengthen the centers? The process that holds it all together is the living question, the center of attention that asks How can we intensify the whole? Each person proposes new centers; all together decide and carry the good ones forward. But there is also something else going on here: they are creating themselves, larger and smaller.
