Western nonsense

Our Western thinking runs this way: No one will do anything without being paid for it; we will not do anything for ourselves that we can buy. Of course this is nonsense: we have community, and as volunteers we can do more than individuals and more than the economy.

For our world-child

For our world-child
what are we to do?
Conceive, nurture,
bear, birth, nurse,
encourage to climb and play,
again, again, again

Speak to hearts. Speak to good, truth, beauty, divinity within people. If others say idealism has no place in the world…. Well, ask them why they still live if not for something better than they can grasp. Ask them what is the best of which they are capable, of which humanity is possible, of which humanity in this place is possible. Invite. Invite even though not all invitations are accepted.

One thing stands

I used to say the subjects of death and dying are fun, when what I really meant was that what people do in its face can be poignant and beautiful. Or that my real life’s work is fishing. One thing stands for another.

Yesterday was Groundhog’s Day
The groundhog did not see his shadow
Did not run for cover
Stayed out and played
& All wanted to believe
The breeze we felt
Was a breath from
The coming spring

The world is larger, collaborative, and beautiful

The world is larger, collaborative, and beautiful.

It is larger than we thought, larger than we know, larger every instant, and growing. It is collaborative: being one, it is absolutely necessary that we work together, that we invite, that we play. It is beautiful, full of beauty and wonder and awe in each instance and in the whole for it is whole and one and mystical and earthy.

Dreams are persons too—
How then shall we treat these babes?
For sure, we should welcome

Living our giving

Are we living our giving? Writing checks is not philanthropy, unless it is all you can do, but often it is all we will do. Much of the time, there is more we can do, there is meeting we can do.

Dancing a larger circle

It is about making life and the living of it…larger. It is about drawing, dancing a larger circle into which we can pour our hearts.
