What if we already knew?
What if we already knew and felt the importance of conversation—lived it every day—and only need to be lightly touched on the shoulder—to turn and let it do our heavy work?

One can speak with those
who are prepared to hear
but with those not
words hold themselves back
knowing?
:- Doug.
My purpose is to help people [work and] play together better in society. I do that in micro ways and macro: micro is Wills, Trusts, nursing homes, and Complex Family businesses; macro is in community disorganizing.
:- Doug.
Together
This country is
not something that is
rather something we do
This community is
not something that is
rather something we do
Our G*d is
not something that is
rather something we do
:- Doug.
To view the environment as something on which humans operate misses reality: We are within and part of the ecology, affected and affecting. We do best if we work with and within not apart or upon.
:- Doug.
G*d is to me community
& the conversations within community
The whole and the flow
The music and the dance
:- Doug.
If we were to turn around our inquiry: instead of working on crises, if we worked on the place we want to be, what would that place be?
:- Doug.
If we see G*d as the
parent cell of all there is
and that cell as the
love-impulse holding all together
as one
What is possible?
:- Doug.
My work is to promote conversation as the modus operandi of the world.
:- Doug.
I reject the notion that the old goods are the only goods. We daily make new ones.
:- Doug.
Conversations that matter mean people matter: people have within them something good which they can, if they choose, let loose upon the world.
:- Doug.
We scatter our experiences about
then of necessity stumble among them
they go not readily upon shelves
mulling about we take them apart to refit
together into something new
a way to touch the world
& make it up as we go along
children skipping and
telling a new-old story
:- Doug.
In a world of shades of grey
to insist upon victory
is profoundly out of touch
:- Doug.
On the one hand we’re not talking about mere cocktail party chit-chat; on the other, we are not networking either. Conversation is deeper than the first, more focused than the second. Conversation matters; and it matters toward getting something done.
:- Doug.
We are throwing away wind- solar- and other forms of energy, we are throwing away people, we are throwing away our imaginations. What then do we do?
:- Doug.
Silence!
Pause
Glance
Wait
Savor
Steep
Betweens
Emergences
Still!
Discovery
Loving
Hearing
These are the
fecund spaces
underlying
birthing
conversation
:- Doug.
The most important thing we can do is start a conversation that matters.
:- Doug.
To us
Through us
G*d
Whispers…Shouts!
Among us
Between us
Listen listen well
Speak speak well
Hear us hear yourself
:- Doug.
