It is incumbent upon us

It is incumbent upon us, finding ourselves here, to put to work this intricate mind capacity, this diversity of perspectives, this close proximity, this larger view, into something that serves life. It will be roiling, boiling, weaving, growing, tangling, emerging, sense-making, world manipulating. Do we think we are given dominion for our little selfish selves or for something grander? Let us use it all, create more and use that too, to make larger the meeting.

Footprints in the Windsm # 857

Our theology has been looking the wrong direction: we have been looking at God, trying to define God when all along we should have been trying to see what humankind is and could be, in relation to God.

For instance, in Genesis God says to Adam—Here is the world—take charge. So tell me, in your life what have you done to take charge of the world?

At the end of the Gospel, Jesus calls us his friends—when was the last time you called him “Friend?” When have you acted as if he were your friend?

In the Ten Commandments, God told us what not to do—have you tried to noodle out what that leaves open to us?

The conversation is new because…

The conversation is new because it is new every day, every conversation. It is a new opportunity to meet, to make a world.

We have not talked like this before because we have not been here before. We have not talked like this before because the opportunities for big talk have never existed before. We have not talked like this before because we are just now starting to feel the population compression.

This conversation is new also because we have never before had this much mind capacity for the intricate.

mix it up: this is life

What is essential is that we mix it up, mix ourselves, become part of the mix. What is essential is that we engage life and each other. Engage each other heart and head and hands and ears. So the main event is the meeting getting ready for something else. If it is we, truly meeting, deeply widely intricately, then it is life.

We are creating the now

We are creating the now, not the future, when we work for a better future. We are changing the now which of course changes the future and the past.

A goal is a crutch

A goal is a crutch. It is not what you want to live. It can help you walk, but if you are able, why do you need something that can get in your way?

We do not get people to march

We do not get people to march, to sit-in, but invite them to sit down and hear each other, and then get on with their work.

Story, Song, Hearing

Story, Song, and Hearing are the strength of humanity. Hearing implies open hearts, open spaces, action, engaging, open minds, open hands, the people owning their community, their lives. These compose the gossamer thread of incredible strength and stickiness that runs through the heart of each human and ties us together as one.
